Rite Aid's Echo Hollow Store in Eugene to Close Amid Bankruptcy Proceedings

Community Faces Pharmacy Desert as Rite Aid Shutters Local Store

Rite Aid's Echo Hollow store in Eugene is set to close its doors, marking a significant shift for the local community.

This closure is part of a broader strategy by the company, which has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in less than a year.

As of May 22, 2025, Rite Aid announced the closure of 12 pharmacy locations across Oregon, including the Echo Hollow store.

Pharmacy services at this location have already ceased, and the entire store is expected to shut down in the near future.

This development leaves residents with fewer options for pharmaceutical services in the area.

In addition to the Echo Hollow location, the Rite Aid store on Coburg Road in Eugene is also slated for closure.

However, stores in Woodfield Station and on Marcola Road in Springfield will remain operational.

Customers affected by these closures have been notified that their prescriptions are being transferred to other Rite Aid locations or partner pharmacies.

For assistance in finding a new pharmacy, members can contact the Pharmacy Help Desk at 503-416-4100 or toll-free at 800-224-4840, available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

After-hours support is available through OptumRx: Medicare members can call 866-325-7344, and Medicaid (OHP) members can reach out to 844-245-0449.

The closure of the Echo Hollow store is part of a larger trend, with Rite Aid planning to close more than 30 locations across Oregon.

This move comes as the company navigates financial challenges and seeks to restructure its business model in response to a rapidly changing retail and healthcare environment.

In a statement, Rite Aid CEO Matt Schroeder expressed optimism, stating, "While we have continued to face financial challenges...we are encouraged by meaningful interest from a number of potential national and regional strategic acquirors."

Community members have expressed concern over the loss of the neighborhood store.

One local resident shared, "Sorry to see them go, it's too bad, a lot of people are gonna miss them, and I know what they're talking about because I'm gonna miss them too."

As the closure date approaches, residents are encouraged to make arrangements for their pharmaceutical needs and stay informed about alternative options available in the community.

For more information on the closures and assistance with prescription transfers, customers can contact their customer service lines.

As the community adapts to these changes, the focus remains on ensuring that residents have access to the healthcare services they need.

Local healthcare providers and pharmacies are stepping up to fill the gap left by the Rite Aid closures, aiming to provide seamless transitions for those affected.

In the coming weeks, community meetings and forums are expected to be held to address concerns and provide information on available resources.

Residents are encouraged to participate and voice their needs to ensure that the community continues to thrive despite these challenges.

As the situation develops, staying informed and proactive will be key in navigating the changes brought about by the Rite Aid closures.

The resilience of the Eugene community will undoubtedly shine through as it adapts to this new landscape.
